Tippler Crab Project

This creature is from the sketch book I kept during Dark crystal. Half crab half pitcher plant. Its called Tippler crab because of its swaying back and forth like a drunk with a jug of beer. I created a model in Maya, sculpted in Zbrush, textured in Substance and Look\Dev in Maya using Arnold. Currently learning Unreel to place it in a scene and perhaps animate it.

Concept

One of the things I miss about being it the office at DNEG, was the unofficial sketch club. We accidentally formed it by sitting in the kitchen sketch at the same time and collecting other people over time.
This sketch was done in Pigment fine line, brush pens and pencils.

Model

Turn table set up inspired by my time at university doing practical effects.

I made my own custom textures and shaders in Substance Designer to emulate chavant clay, one of my favourite materials to sculpt in.
